Party time

With some birthday parties coming up I thought better make some new buntings. In The Netherlands we call them "slingers" and the are always a real party topper. When we came to New Zealand I brought some "slingers" with me but they are not the best ones anymore.
So it is time for a new one.
I looked through my pile of fabric and found some nice fabrics that match the colours in the house as well, spend a afternoon behind the sewing machine and we are ready for the parties.
I was cutting triangles and more triangles, more than enough for two long buntings, 7 meters each and there are still a lot of triangles left, so I like to make one to stock up my Etsy shop.

In between I did some painting. We've got a old wooden travel box from our neighbour. It was a dark brown smelly box but in a good condition and very use full. So there was my white paint
again and look what I made of it.

Material Obsession

Months ago I wrote a blog about the pile of fabric that I bought for my daughters quilt. The one that I found in the great book Material Obsession. Now I can show you that I've been quite busy over the summer, the quilt is almost finished. There was a lot of work involved because all the parts are done by hand. Now I'm piecing it all together by machine and again I like to do the top quilting by hand. The evenings are getting shorter and colder over here so it is nice to snuggle under it while you do the hand quilting.

I made daisies, daffodils, sunflowers, hearts, gerberas, tulips, four-patches and pinwheels so unfortunately it wasn't a boring job at all. Everything in bright colours with a lot of white, what makes it a quite nice quilt.

Here just a little peek of what I been doing and I'll show you soon the end result. First I have to hand quilt!

Happy Valentine !!

The tree before painting and decorating.

I made a Little valentine tree with red love hearts. Took a branch out of my garden , let it dry for a couple of weeks and painted it white with some normal undercoat.
Some felt love heart make it a real valentine tree. Not that we celebrate valentine but I thought it is a good reason to make a nice decoration. And with Easter I can put my little Easter eggs in.

Wish you all a great Valentine !!

New old chairs

Before the big bang!

With new fabric.

I bought 4 chairs on a garage sale.
One green, one red, one dark brown and one creme.

And now they are all the same.

I covered some great old chairs with some new floral fabric.
It was an absolutely must because we went right true it, the chairs are on our veranda but the sun made the fabric fade away.
I bought the chairs a long time ago in a second hand shop an the other set of 4 on a garage sale just for $2.50 each. Don't you think they look great.

It's a picture that I made on the lavender farm here on the coast. I love to visit this place so I go there every year when the lavender is flowering. And every year I make new (the same)pictures .

I'll tag:

Back to normal.

Private beach

sailing trip

Cafe Nina out of my Crafty book, a great palce to stop and have a coffee.

Beach with millions of shells

We are back from a great holiday and everything is back in his normal routine. Back to work and the girls back to school. Back to new classes , new friends and a new school for Elle, who started High school yesterday.

We spend the last week of the school holiday camping in a great area in New Zealand the weather was warm, sometimes to warm but we don't complain. We brought our own kano so we had hours of fun on the beach in the afternoons. Everyday we made a day trip and at the end of the day we spent some time at the beach. Sometimes we had the whole beach for our self. The water was aqua blue and the sand bright white. Normally you see that in a brochure but this was real, amazing!!

There was one beach that didn't had sand but millions of little shells, we spend a whole afternoon there just looking at all the great shells. And ofcourse we took some home to put in a glass bowl for decoration.
My Crafty girls on a road trip book was our guide for nice shops and great places for a coffee stop.
And last but not least we made a sailing trip on a big sailing boat ,it was great!!

Introducing

This is the first time that I write in my blog.
I am Jacoline, me and my family emigrated to New Zealand from The Netherlands 3 years ago.
I can tell you, we went through some hard times in those 3 years, but we found our dream.

We bought a lovely home close to the beach. I spend a lot of time in our garden which has a lot of fruit trees, a nice vegetable garden and great flowers.

I love to shop in secondhand shops and garages sales are the best invention ever.
My days are filled with craft, cooking , baking and of course my 3 girls.
I try to have a beachwalk every day and on wednesday I join the quilt club.

We are still busy with rebuiling the house to make it a great home.
We like traveling and like to discover our new country.
I keep you updated with new stories, recipes, ideas and pictures every week.
