Some work to do!

After a long time we went to some garage sale on Saturday and I must say it was worth wile.
I'm always a bit in a hurry because I have to open my shop in the morning as well, but for some great garage sales you make some time.

The car was full with bits and pieces and most of the are already in use. What a bit of white paint can do. Have a look yourself.

One small table is in use at the back veranda to enjoy the midday and evening sun.

From the old brown frame I made a lovely picture frame that is for sale in my shop. Two weeks ago I made one like this and it was sold within a day.

And the little shelf rack found his place in my workspace behind the shop.

And you have never enough tables to put things on in the shop, so the small one is for the shop and is for sale as well.
It was a busy weekend but I loved it!

Monday, My Day.

Monday, my day again. What happened with the time, hours, days , weeks.
Monday, my day off . I'm not talking about my beautiful beach walk and don't show you lovely pictures. You probably have enough off them.
But in between my paint jobs (an other door, a chair, a kids kitchen for the shop and some other bits and pieces) I've been to the beach , to the second hand shop and made some flower arrangements from the last autumn flowers out of the garden.

A few pieces of fabric that I found in the second hand shop. Sometimes when I see a fabric I know what I want to make. So the ideas are there, now some time to make it.

Do you know what our winter project is?

Piece by piece.

Last summer I started to mosaic a table top. But I didn't finish it off. It is one of the jobs that you have to make some time for, you can't do it in a rush.
I made a mosaic from old cups and plates that I found on garage sale and op shops in the area and on holiday.
It is great if you sit outside and look at the table and spot to plate that you found during the holiday. Brings me back to good memories.

The table and chairs are standing on my front veranda on a nice sunny spot. And even in the winter you will catch some sunshine. On a rainy day this is the perfect spot as well.

Warm feet.

I'm back home from work, had already one of my lovely bowls of coffee and have a great weekend feeling. No work for two days.
That doesn't mean there is nothing to do. I have a lot of things on my to do list for this weekend. First of all garage sailing tomorrow morning. I'm always a bit up sad if there isn't one. But we already looked in the news paper and we are lucky. One of the girls is in a ballet show for 2 days so that means a lot of driving in mums taxi. Up and down and up and down the theater. The weather forecast is rainy so I planed to do a lot of painting. The girls bathroom needs a lot of white paint and I bought a chair on a garage sale that needs a bit of white paint as well and a new cover. So lots to do for me.
I finished my bathmat and like to show you. When the weather is cooler now it is really nice to put your feet on a great warm bathmat.

Here a sneak peek, my garage sale chair that is waiting for a make over.

Have a great creative weekend all !!!

My moment.

After work I always make myself a nice cup of coffee. That's my moment. I enjoy every minute.
And what is better than a great bowl of nice coffee with a good fluff on top and some chocolate.
I bought the bowl on a garage sale and use it now every day.
This is the coffee I like , Lazy Sunday, but o so nice during the week to give you a lazy Sunday feeling.

The plunger and the milk-foam maker are also garage sale founds.
I enjoyed my coffee today with home made mixed spice cake with sultanas (kruidkoek).
Here the recipe if you want to make it;
400 gram self raising flour
200 gram soft brown sugar
1/2 packet mixed spice
1 table spoon cinnamon
black pepper and salt
approx. 300 ml. water to make a soft dough.
handful sultanas, sun flour seeds, pumpkin seed, dried apricots, oats .
bake for 1 hour on 170 degrees Celsius.
ENJOY!!

New old chairs

Before the big bang!

With new fabric.

I bought 4 chairs on a garage sale.
One green, one red, one dark brown and one creme.

And now they are all the same.

I covered some great old chairs with some new floral fabric.
It was an absolutely must because we went right true it, the chairs are on our veranda but the sun made the fabric fade away.
I bought the chairs a long time ago in a second hand shop an the other set of 4 on a garage sale just for $2.50 each. Don't you think they look great.

Home made bread.

I love baking bread, specially different ones. I make the dough in the bread maker, because it is easy and saves a lot of time and hard work (so I have time to do other things in between) then I bake the bread in the oven.
Last Saturday I found 2 great bread tins on a garage sale. I never saw them before so I bought them and make some nice muesli bread.
I used the normal recipe for bread and added a big bowl of muesli and a hand full of sultanas. It turned out very nice and tasty.

Tonight we are having vegetarian soup for diner and I serve it with a home made cumin-bread. Just add some cumin seeds at the dough and bake in the oven. Great taste!

This is the new (old) daybed that we bought on the last weekend garage sale as well. It suits well on our back veranda.

Garage sale or vintage shop???

Sometimes there are days that you think grrrrr. But than you go to a garage sale and your eyes are almost falling out off your head. This is not a garage sale, this looks more like a great vintage shop.
It was to hard to make a good choice so I bought everything I liked. When we came home we told the girls about the great bargains and after a quick breakfast we went straight back!
On the photo is just part of what we bought, isn't it great!
We bought a great wooden daybed as well which is now out on the veranda. Tommorow I'll make some photo's to show you all.

Introducing

This is the first time that I write in my blog.
I am Jacoline, me and my family emigrated to New Zealand from The Netherlands 3 years ago.
I can tell you, we went through some hard times in those 3 years, but we found our dream.

We bought a lovely home close to the beach. I spend a lot of time in our garden which has a lot of fruit trees, a nice vegetable garden and great flowers.

I love to shop in secondhand shops and garages sales are the best invention ever.
My days are filled with craft, cooking , baking and of course my 3 girls.
I try to have a beachwalk every day and on wednesday I join the quilt club.

We are still busy with rebuiling the house to make it a great home.
We like traveling and like to discover our new country.
I keep you updated with new stories, recipes, ideas and pictures every week.
